Strawberry Pretzel Salad

I have been making strawberry pretzel salad for many years.  This recipe doesn’t take very long to put together and is great to make in advance.  I have taken it to potlucks and served it with holiday meals.

Steve loves strawberry pretzel salad and just requested it a few days ago.   Since I have a tendency to spoil him rotten whenever he gets a whim for a particular food,  I whipped it up after dinner one evening.  🙂

The original recipe calls for frozen strawberries and that is what I typically use, however this time when I didn’t have any, I used a container of fresh berries which were cut into pieces and sweetened with a little sugar.


  • 2 1/4 cups pretzels, broken
  • 1 cup margarine, melted
  • 3 tablespoons sugar
  • 8 ounces Cool Whip
  • 8 ounces cream cheese, softened
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 2 (10 ounce) packages frozen strawberries
  • 2 (3 ounce) packages strawberry Jello
  • 2 cups boiling water


Mix first three ingredients and put into 9×13 baking dish.

Bake for 10 minutes at 350 °F.  Let crust cool.

Blend cream cheese and sugar.

Fold in Cool Whip.

Spread over cooled crust & refrigerate.

Dissolve Jello in boiling water.

Add thawed fruit.  Allow to cool slightly.

Pour over top of pretzel mixture and let cool in refrigerator for 30-45 minutes
