Homemade Twix Bars

I just have one word for this candy: YUM!!!  Ok, I can think of a few more.  Incredible, amazing, over-the-top delicious, favorite, chocolatey….. I could go on, but I’ll stop there!  You get the idea.  This turned out to be one of the favorite candies made over the holiday season.  In fact the first batch was gone and I ended up making 2 more batches before the end of the month!  They had rave review everywhere I took them!

The bars are not very time consuming and all cooking is done on top of the stove, so they are not just great for the holidays, but also as a no-bake bar in the summer!  The club crackers give them that little crunch & salty flavor, the inside has that creamy caramel with the surprise ingredient being crushed graham crackers.  The top layer has that perfect combo of chocolate & peanut butter.  While I prefer creamy peanut butter in this recipe, I ran a little short and finished it off with crunchy.  Either is fine to use.

Homemade Twix Bars

  • Club crackers

For the caramel filling

  • 1 cup graham crackers, crushed
  • 3/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1/3 cup white sugar
  • 1/3 cup milk
  • 1/2 cup margarine

For the frosting

  • 2/3 cup peanut butter
  • 1 cup milk chocolate chips

Begin by putting a layer of club crackers in a 13 x 9 pan.

In a saucepan on the stove, combine the caramel filling ingredients.

Bring to a boil, continue to stir and boil for approximately 5 minutes (may go a little less). The mixture will be thickened, caramel-like and will pull away from the sides of the pan.

Pour over the crackers, being very careful, as the mixture is extremely hot.

Immediately top with another layer of club crackers, pressing down slightly

Place in fridge to chill for at least 30 minutes

For the frosting, combine peanut butter and chocolate chips in small bowl. Microwave for 2 minutes, stir well and frost crackers.
