Originally, this recipe was just known as “Grape Salad” and that was what I intended when I started to make it. However, there must have been a grape thief in the house because when I went to look for my ingredients, I did not have enough red grapes and I had no green grapes. (The recipe called for equal amounts of red and green grapes.)
What to do? Improvise of course! I did have some Granny Smith apples that needed to be used. So rather than make another trip to the grocery which I really dislike having to do, I added chopped apples to the recipe in place of the grapes. You know what? I really liked it much better! The sour and crunch from the apples made a great addition to the texture and sweetness of the grapes.
