Grape and Apple Salad

Originally, this recipe was just known as “Grape Salad” and that was what I intended when I started to make it.  However, there must have been a grape thief in the house because when I went to look for my ingredients, I did not have enough red grapes and I had no green grapes. (The recipe called for equal amounts of red and green grapes.)

What to do?  Improvise of course!  I did have some Granny Smith apples that needed to be used.  So rather than make another trip to the grocery which I really dislike having to do, I added chopped apples to the recipe in place of the grapes.  You know what?  I really liked it much better!  The sour and crunch from the apples made a great addition to the texture and sweetness of the grapes.

Grape and Apple Salad

  • 1 (8-ounce) package cream cheese, softened
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 3/4 cup sour cream
  • 3/4 cup firmly packed brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 3-4 Granny Smith apples, diced
  • 1 pound seedless red grapes
  • 1 cup chopped pecans

In a small bowl, combine cream cheese, sugar, sour cream, brown sugar, and vanilla, stirring until smooth.
In a large bowl, combine grapes, apples and pecans.
Pour cream cheese mixture over the fruit, tossing gently to coat.
Cover and chill.

I’ve been searching for this simple recipe because I had something similar about a year ago and no one anywhere had this; thank you so much!
