Fried Mozzarella and Pepperoni Sticks

Last week, my husband celebrated a birthday.  As it turned out, he had to be out of town for a couple of days and I didn’t get to spend much time with him through the week.  So on Saturday when we were both home, I made sure he was spoiled all day.  As he sat in his favorite chair watching football games, I tried out several recipes for new appetizers which I served him.  Of all the things I made, these were his favorite!

I have mentioned in other posts that my husband absolutely loves pepperoni, so these little appetizers were perfect for him. They were stuffed with gooey cheese and pepperoni, then dipped in warm sauce.

It’s really not difficult at all to make these and with just 3 ingredients, you have a quick & easy appetizer in no time!

  • 12 pieces of string cheese
  • 12 egg roll wrappers
  • Slices of pepperoni-3-5 pieces per stick
  • Oil for deep-frying
  • Marinara, pizza, or spaghetti sauce, warmed

On top of an egg roll wrapper, place 3-5 pieces of pepperoni.

Place a piece of string cheese on top.

Fold corners over cheese.

Fold bottom corner over cheese and pepperoni and keep rolling until cheese is tightly sealed.

Moisten corners with water to seal.

Repeat with the rest of wrappers, cheese and pepperoni.

In a skillet, heat oil to medium hot approximately 375 degrees.

Fry sticks, a few at a time, for 30-60 seconds on each side until completely brown.

Drain on paper towels.

Serve with sauce.

Awwww that is sweet to spoil your husband! I have never cooked with egg roll wrappers. :-O
When you say “moisten corners with water to seal”, do they pretty much stay sealed, or is there a trick to making sure they do?

This was my first time to cook with egg roll wrappers, though they are the same as wonton wrappers which I have used (just bigger). It is the coolest thing! I usually have a small bowl with some water nearby. I just dip my finger in the water, run it along the edges, and they seal beautifully! Super easy and works great for holding ingredients inside!
