Sub sandwiches are a perfect fall, football watching food for hungry family or friends. This cheesesteak sub is made with meat from the deli, so it is quick to make and a delicious change from the regular ham or turkey. Adding a little steak sauce really enhances the flavor of the beef.
You can use any cheese you like. Provolone is the classic cheese used on a cheesesteak sub, but a gooey cheddar sauce would be delicious too. A couple of minutes under the broiler melts the cheese and gives it that slightly brown top. Delicious!
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 1 medium onion, sliced into thin pieces
- 1 pound thin deli roast beef
- 1-2 tablespoons steak sauce (I used A-1)
- 1/2 teaspoon oregano
- Salt & pepper to taste
- 8 slices Provolone cheese
- 4 sub sandwich buns
Melt butter in skillet and add thinly sliced. Cook until onions are soft and translucent.
Add roast beef, steak sauce, oregano, salt and pepper to the onions.
Place beef mixture on sub bread and top with cheese.
Place sandwich under broiler for approximately 2 minutes until cheese is melted and beginning to brown.
Makes 4 sandwiches.
