My mother-in-law first introduced me to Cheese Bread. It has probably been the most used recipe for bread by my mother-in-law, sister-in-law, and myself through the years. It is SUPER easy, quick to make, can be made ahead of time, and is delicious enough to serve for company or at a holiday dinner.
The original recipe calls for the cheese to be Old English Cheese spread which comes in a small jar in the grocery store next to other processed cheese foods. If I don’t have that, I will use regular Velveeta cheese and it turns out just fine.
Cheese Bread
Ingredients:
- 1 loaf French or Italian bread
- 1 stick margarine or butter
- 1 jar Old English cheese spread or 8 ounces Velveeta
Directions:
If not already done, slice bread into 1-inch pieces.
Melt margarine/butter and cheese together in a saucepan over low heat.
Spread cheese/butter mixture on each slice of bread.
If there is any left over mixture, spoon it over the top of the bread.
Wrap the loaf in foil.
Place in 350 °F oven until heated through.
